What Does a Doula Do?
What exactly does a doula do? It’s a perfectly reasonable question to ask! Some of the things I do as a doula include guidance, education, support, and advocacy. As your doula, I’ll be your first line of defense when anxiety kicks in as I help you understand the progression of your pregnancy. I’ll be at your doctor’s appointments ensuring that your wishes are accomodated during birth. I’m here to help you understand the options that doctors and nurses are presenting you so that you can make informed decisions.
I am here to answer all of your questions, at any time they arise. I will prepare you for each step of your pregnancy through postpartum to help alleviate worry or surprises. I am here to be your emotional support, your encourager, and to prepare a calm birth environment. I will prepare you with natural relaxation techniques and physical pain relief measures. You will have my full attention and support on the day you give birth.
As your Doula I’m here to help you understand the options that doctors and nurses are presenting you so that you can make informed decisions.
As your doula, I will be physically present for you throughout labor and birth. I know how and when to coach you from beginning to end. I’ll remind you of helpful breathing patterns and relax you through contractions. I will help you move around into the most comfortable positions during labor. I am trained in touch and massage techniques to help relieve the stress and physical pain that can be present during labor. I can help reduce pain, the need for medication, and even the length of your labor.
I also provide postpartum services. These services will start immediately after birth with breastfeeding support, then continue in the days to come with extended in-home visits. As a doula, I also offer several add-on services including extended postpartum visits, photography referrals, and placenta preservation.
